Good morning, Mini-Women! I'm way excited today because THIS book -- a YEAR-LONG devotional written just for you -- officially comes out on (drum roll please) FRIDAY! Some of you -- who entered the NOBLE contest this summer -- will be receiving a free copy from me. For those who will be buying one, you can find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Christian Book Distributors, as well as at your local Christian bookstore if you have one. I can't wait for you to see it -- and use it. When you do, I would love to hear your reactions. I'll post quotes from you (first names only) on the website.
Speaking of the website -- we're in the process of updating it -- so in October on the tween page, you'll see more photos, a map of Lucy's town that you can download so you'll have your own color copy, a new Budding Authors section for those of you who like to write, complete with a monthly showcase of a tween writer and a new writing challenge every month. Not long after that you'll be able to download Bible studies to go witih Lucy, and discussion guides to go with Lily and Sophie -- plus a WHOLE LOT of other stuff that will help you become part of Lucy's world and win cool stuff. I can't wait!
I love having things to look forward to, especially since our lives are so often filled with things we dread! Like those BOHOs for instance. For those of you just checking in, a BOHO is a Big Ol' Hairy Obstacle that stands between you and whatever is noble, right, true, pure, and lovely. And boy do we have a LOT of them -- 32 people posted theirs! According to your comments, the most common BOHOs include:
absurd little creep boys
not knowing who we are and how we're supposed to serve God
trying to do everything on our own (and forgetting God)
not knowing how to pray
annoying other kids
our own thoughts
parents in general
trouble telling people about Christ
worrying about what people think of us
peer pressure that makes us do ungodly things
too much time on the computer
focusing WAY a lot on ourselves
With all of that stacked up, it can seem impossible to get and stay close to God. But it ISN'T impossible -- and we're going to work on that, one group of BOHOs at a time. We'll start with the ones about ourselves, then move to the ones that involve other people, and finish with the ones that have to do with God. We can't REALLY separate them from each other, because everything affects everything else (have you noticed?) but I think that will help us keep our thoughts clear and make getting over the BOHOs easier to do.
To get ready for Friday, when we'll talk about the BOHOs we create for ourselves, try this:
Think of all the ways you get in your own way. You've already come up with a pretty good list:
* not knowing you are
* trying to do everything on your own
* thinking ugly, sarcastic, just plain mean thoughts
* worrying about what other people think of us
* just thinking me-me-me most of the time!
Which of those do you struggle with? Or are there others? I think way too much about my weight, which is an old habit of mine (even though I've never actually been what you would call "fat"!) Maybe you find yourself being all critical of other people in your mind. Or you daydream about getting back at people who are mean to you. Or maybe you actually don't like yourself very much. Our first step is to look at how we can be obstacles to ourselves. Then we'll talk about how to get out of the way!
Sound like a plan? Comment on this as many times as you want so I'll have plenty to work with. Thanks for always being brave, and for being kind to each other. You're so good at it, I think you're ready for another contest, which I'll announce Friday. See you then!
